Ask John Diamond
The terrain varies from a pleasant mix of desert flats, cut with draws and washes, to some high craggy mountains and peaks. There are extensive rolling hills, covered with grass and some juniper, with Oak brush covered draws leading up to the high country with a combination of Pinon, Juniper, Oaks and Ponderosa Pine. The views from the high points of this ranch are spectacular. There are mule deer, prong horn antelope, black bear, mountain lion, coyote, badgers, cotton tail rabbits, jack rabbits, quail, golden eagles, numerous types of raptors and small birds too numerous to mention. This area has an extensive history of Indian cultures, Spanish occupation, western livestock industry and mining. There is a book written about the history of the Flying X Ranch, which is quite interesting.
